Making Space To Write Your Book

Your life is full. Full of children, work, other past-times and the time you need to spend with your important other so they know you still care. But you also have this powerful desire to work out if you are literally capable of putting out the next great American (or EU) novel, short story or screenplay…so where and how do you find the time?

The quick answer is that you will need to make the time. In all the various “how to write” books you will find one common piece of guidance. If you need to be a writer, then write. There is no other sorcery solution to getting your latest western novel, teenager love or Sci Fi fable done. You should write, and you must do it consistently to stay in the game and keep your focus. Therefore , whether it is dedicating an hour in the morning before the others of your home rise, or and hour or two at night after all eyes have closed and drapes have been drawn, you simply need to overlook the Television, stop listening to the voices of temptation in your mind's eye to do something else, and sit down with your note pad or portable and write. Something. Anything.

“But what about that cabin in the woods that I might be in a position to visit this summer? I could do my work there!”, you say to oneself. No. No. No. Which will fall thru. Your kids will beg to come; your other half will decide it is better to bring along one or two in-laws.

And, that is in some distant future while today no writing is getting done.

It starts with a place. Pick any you like. The kitchen table, the couch, your office, the yard, your vehicle for heck sake. Bring a pen, paper, or your computer. Then start typing anything related to your book. You do not want to start into deep and profound poetry right off the bat. Begin to write nonsense and soon you'll find that your intellect turns to words that are worth keeping. Your characters will begin to dialog. Your plot will take on a life of its own and begin to flow. Just do it. (I'm sure that is trademarked, but it's sensible advice however).

Does a First-time Teen Author Actually Need a Publisher?

The answer for new, first time authors especially is, “no”. In the current day's writing world, the truth is that you will need to take the power into your own hands and work on Self Publishing your book as an e-Book,,,,,,, if that be an electronic book Western or other genre. Much more needs to be explained about how this is done than can be covered in this brief piece, but in brief, here is a list of some of the roles you can take over and do yourself that you used to rely a normal Publisher to play:

The Gate Keeper – Want to discover if your book is good enough to sell to a larger audience? Then offer it for free online, through your internet site, site, site, site, site, site, site, to a limited number of readers and ask for their feedback.

The Editor – It's right that you shouldn't edit your own work. Nevertheless there are numerous freelance editors you can hire for a reasonable rate to help edit your work. It is far cheaper in the long run for you to pay for this service than it will be after giving a Publisher 90% control of your work.

The Producer – Generating an e-Book is easier everyday. There are free utilities to make PDFs, MOBIs and all of the formats you need for iPad, Nook and Kindle e-readers, and there are folks who will convert your book as a service.

The Distributor – You don't need to ship your book anywhere. Offering it as a download on your website, or right from sites like Amazon.com or BarnesAndNoble.com works great.

The Marketer – If you've a internet site, site, site, site, site, site, site, an author Facebook page, and a mass e-mail service, you have all the tools you need to start promoting yourself. You want somewhere for folk to go to read about you and download your book. Then you want to get out there in the forums and websites that readers of your genre frequent and start talking about your book and pointing them back to your site.

If you believe it'll cost time and cash to self publish, you are correct. But you'll give away far less of your work than otherwise. And you'll get to understand your fans, learn things that improve your writing, and with a little bit of luck begin to build a community around your work that you can leverage next time you publish Western novels yourself.

James Bond: the 007 novels by Ian Fleming

James Bond remains a massive influence on favored culture, with 22 official films in the series. However , no matter how well-liked he might be as a big screen hero, many people forget – or are even not aware – the Brit agent with a licence to kill started as a literary character.

Ian Fleming came from a privileged background and though sent to Eton, failed to shine academically, although he did well at athletics. After his release from officer training at Sandhurst, he joined the town for a spell as a stockbroker at which he was poor, until he finally found his feet before the war as a correspondent with Reuters. His first brush with the intelligence services could have come when he visited Moscow in 1933 to cover the trial of six employees of Vickers, who went being tried for espionage.

When war broke out in 1939, Fleming right away joined Naval Intelligence, quickly rising to the rank of Commander, as the right hand man to the Director of Naval Intelligence. It was here that he was concerned in some of the most brazen schemes of the war and met assorted characters that he was later ready to draw upon when writing the James Bond books.

After the war Fleming became the foreign chief for Kemsley Newspapers, which counted the Sunday Times as one of its titles. He also acquired land in Jamaica, where he then built his house, Goldeneye; it was here that he would vacation every winter to flee the cold of London.

It was also here that he started, in 1952, to write the 1st words of Casino Royale. He had wanted to write “the spy story to end all spy stories” which was released the following year. Every year after that he published a new book, although he sometimes veered from formula. Following Goldfinger he published For Your Eyes Only which contained 5 short stories; The Spy Who Adored Me was written from the point of view of the Bond girl; and Octopussy & The Living Daylights, broadcast posthumously, was also short stories.

I first came across Casino Royale when I was just about 8 years old , when I went through my parents book shelf. My pa owned a paperback edition, which I took up to my room and devoured as best I could. I adored the adventure and the way Bond knew what to do in any situation he found himself. Though the literary character is dissimilar from the films and often shows self doubt, he works out how to proceed anyhow, and his comportment at the gambling tables and in fine restaurants seemed unusually complicated.

Over time I continued reading the novels, every Time I could get my hand on one. The library was an excellent source and soon I was collecting second hand paperbacks from our local marketplace. The stories show Bond as frequently weak, particularly his use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. However , he barely employs the type of classy gizmo that get him out of trouble in the films and must put up with his very own ingenuity.

The books are still worth reading after more than 50 years since the publication of Casino Royale. And they function to remind us of the times of the cold war, long before the major perceived threat to the western world was terrorism.

Get More Money By Marketing E-books

If you want to make some extra money, you should consider going into e-book publishing. This particular field is becoming pretty lucrative pretty fast; people are serious about it have even been able to quit their day jobs and make all their money online. It is relatively simple and people from all walks of life have the opportunity to supplement their income by opening their own e-book publishing company.

If any of the above information piqued your interest, listen to these two tips that could help you get your foot in the door.

1. Find out what’s popular and sell that. In the e-book publishing business, success can be found by finding out what people are interested in buying and offering that.

A lot of people fail to do this; they can suffer huge losses by not catering to their audience. It is important to find out the kind of content that is selling and sell it yourself.

2. Have a very liberal refund policy. This may not sound very smart to you, but trust me it is. People look at e-books the way they look at regular books.

Give your customers the peace of mind that, no matter what, they will always be able to get a refund. A good refund policy can make all the difference when someone is deciding whether or not to make a purchase.

A few people, out of the many who will hopefully buy your product, will have malicious intentions when asking for a refund. It is the sacrifice you make for all the customers you otherwise would not have had if you had chosen not to offer refunds.

If you hope to be a successful e-book publisher, these tips will greatly help you on your way. Feed the popular demand and let people know that they can get their money back if they want it. Now go sell some e-books.

Ways That Anyone’s College Textbooks May Run You Less Money

Every year when a new influx of students enters college, the bookshops make an absolute killing. You need your textbooks so go to the store and pay out at least $150, as they buy them back you think you will have a head start on the next ones you need. This goes out the window when you return the book in good condition and they give you $25 for it.

This is the textbook game and unfortunately the students are never the winners. If you go back to that shop at the start of the next semester, there is every chance that you will find the same book in the used section for $120. The way to beat this system is to resell your books online.

The two best sites to list your book on is Amazon and eBay. The latter charges a small fee depending on the selling price.

Amazon is a well respected site and has a good reputation. A lot of people don’t realize that are buying from individuals using the site, and think they are buying from Amazon itself.

Amazon is a better option as it will give better results in the search engines and in peoples minds they are buying from Amazon when they are really buying from an individual who has listed something on the Amazon site.

Another medium for selling is forum sites and there are no fees. The downside of this is the trust factor. If you are a longstanding contributor it shouldn’t be a problem, if not you may well have difficulties selling it for a decent price.

Both eBay and Amazon have well respected ratings systems so you can see a sellers reputation, a few forums have this but most don’t.

Whichever way you sell your book, you need to get your money some way. The most widely used, and safest online payment system is PayPal. The normal transaction fee is around 3%.
